Local sorority sponsors college & scholarship seminar

The Sorors of the Summerville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta  have deltasigmathetaformed a Scholarship Committee, inviting local high school juniors and seniors to attend their annual College and Scholarship Seminar. Delta Sigma Theta is known for empowering local communities through their dedicated service and this event is no different. This year’s seminar will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Alston Middle School from 9:50 am until 2:00 pm. At this seminar, they will be working with Financial Aid and Enrollment/Admissions representatives from various local colleges and universities such as College of Charleston, Trident Technical College and Southern Wesleyann University to make both students and parents aware of the details of the application and funding processes as they prepare for life after graduation. High school teachers and guidance counselors will be in attendance to share information regarding essay writing and completing scholarship applications so that these students have a strong start towards success.

Delta Sigma Theta’s overall goal is to explore all of the educational possibilities that await students after high school; specifically for the students from their local communities to be armed with as much knowledge regarding all aspects of college as possible. “I am so proud to be part of an organization that consistently works with the community to help enrich young people’s lives. We want to help students and their parents find out the best information possible when it comes to exploring college options and how college can be affordable. We will also have applications on hand for our Delta scholarships, ” says alumnae Danielle Hardee, Student Services Coordinator for Southern Wesleyann University.
