Jelena Jankovic enters Charleston, South Carolina Family Circle Cup

Jelena Jankovic, the World Number 8 ranked player and 2007 Family Circle Cup Champion, has officially entered the 2010 Charleston, South Carolina event. Jankovic joins World Number 1 Serena Williams, World Number 3 Caroline Wozniacki, World Number 6 Victoria Azarenka, former World Number 1 Maria Sharapova, 2008 Family Circle Cup Finalist Vera Zvonareva, and 18-year-old American standout Melanie Oudin in a world class player field marking the tournament’s 38th consecutive year and 10th year in Charleston.

The Family Circle Cup, a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Premier Event, is scheduled April 10-18, 2010 at the Family Circle Tennis Center in historic Charleston, South Carolina.

Throughout her 10-year career on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, Jelena Jankovic has notched 11 singles titles, 378 singles victories, over $9.4 million in prize money, and finished a season as the World Number 1 player (2008).

The 24-year-old Serbian marked her third straight season Top 10 year-end ranking in 2009, including a four week run as the World Number 1 player, concluding with a Number 8 finish. The year was highlighted by her tenth and eleventh singles titles at Marbella and Cincinnati, respectively. She reached the third round or better at all four majors, and also qualified for the Tour Championships where she made a semifinal appearance. She also participated in Fed Cup action last year, helping to advance Serbia into 2010 World Group play for the first time in the country’s history. Jankovic has made five previous appearances in Charleston, South Carolina where she has accumulated $222,135 in prize money, an 8-4 record, and a singles title in 2007. Her Cup earnings rank her at No. 19 among all-time Family Circle Cup money leaders.
